Kipper
Mick Inkpen's dog animated at the pace of the picture books, which is to say slowly and on purpose.
Kipper opens with a main title sequence of 45 seconds.
At 45 seconds, it opens well under the 58-second median for animation sequences in this catalogue.
It arrived on ITV in 1997, when Thomas & Friends, Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends and Birds of a Feather were also on the network.

1 sequenceNeon Genesis Evangelion
Ninety seconds cut faster than the eye resolves, with whole frames of text and diagram flashed for one frame each. Yoko Takahashi's theme is bright, major-key J-pop laid over imagery that is doing nothing of the kind, and the mismatch is the point rather than an accident.
